Challenge: Cross-Topic Olympiad

The toughest questions mix forces, energy and data all at once — read the table one row at a time, then ask the real question: does the pattern actually back the claim?

I can work out questions like: “Does the table's pattern support 'a harder push sends the car farther'?”

Kavi and the Olympiad Table

It's the Science Olympiad final! 🏅 Kavi spreads out a page of numbers and grins. "The hard questions mix forces, energy AND data — but I beat them one strand at a time. Here's my secret weapon: before I believe any claim, I check the table's pattern. Do the numbers really move the way the claim says? Read the rows in order… and watch the answer appear!"

A peek inside

The pushing test. A toy car was pushed down the same track three times, a little harder each go: soft → 20 cm, medium → 40 cm, hard → 65 cm. Does this table support the claim 'a harder push sends the car farther'?
First I read the distances in order as the push gets harder: 20, then 40, then 65 cm. They RISE every time. Next I check the claim's direction: 'harder push → farther' also says the distance should rise. The trend matches the claim. Last I check it is fair — same car, same track, only the push changed — so the pattern is trustworthy. All three checks pass.

Try this at home: A car rolled 20, 40 and 60 cm after softer-to-harder pushes. Does the table back 'a harder push sends the car farther', and how do you know?
