Kavi Looks Back

Kavi flips through a thick, dog-eared science journal 📒. "Look how far we've climbed this term! We traced how water, carbon and matter travel round in nature's cycles 🔁 and why extra gases are warming the Earth 🌍, how traits are inherited 🧬, how everything is built from atoms ⚛️, how living things sort into groups and how tiny microbes help and harm 🦠, how a green leaf makes food by photosynthesis 🍃, how energy flows through a food web 🕸️ back to the Sun, how we measure speed and density ⏱️, how our body systems work as one 🫀, and how the Earth, Moon and Sun line up to make phases and eclipses 🌑." He straightens his glasses. "That's a lot of big ideas — let's connect them into one picture, then pass the checkpoint together. Next stop: secondary science!"

What your child will learn

1This term's big ideasWe built a whole term of science! Tap each big idea to bring it back — notice how they connect to each other.
2Two kinds of eclipseBoth eclipses happen when the Sun, Earth and Moon line up — but in a different order, at a different Moon phase. Tap each card to compare.
3Use the whole termEach question pulls on a different big idea from this term. Predict, then tap to check. Tap Next test for more.
4The water cycle goes roundOne of the term's big ideas was a true loop — water travelling round and round, powered by the Sun. Follow it — tap each step.

A peek inside

A sealed glass jar holds a healthy green plant in bright sunlight all day 🫙. Using photosynthesis AND the carbon cycle, what happens to the carbon dioxide in the jar's air?
In the light the plant photosynthesises. It takes in carbon dioxide and water and, with light energy caught by chlorophyll, makes glucose and gives out oxygen. So the carbon dioxide is used up and the amount of oxygen in the jar rises.
