Speed, Density and Motion Graphs
Speed tells us how far something travels in a certain time, density tells us how heavy a thing is for its size, and a motion graph lets us read a whole journey at a glance.

I can measure and calculate speed from distance and time, describe density as heaviness for size, and read a motion graph.

Kavi Races the Clock
Kavi zooms past on a scooter 🛴 with a stopwatch. "Watch me race! I covered 30 metres in just 6 seconds — so my speed was 30 ÷ 6 = 5 metres every second! ⏱️" Kavi grins. "Speed, density and motion graphs are how scientists describe anything that moves — from a slow snail 🐌 to a fast rocket 🚀. Grab a ruler and a timer and let's measure the world!"

What your child will learn
1Distance, time and speedSpeed links two measurements: how far (distance) and how long (time). Tap each part to learn what it means.
2A journey on a distance–time graphA motion graph shows how far something has travelled at each moment. Time runs along the bottom; distance goes up.
3Heavy for its sizeDensity is how much mass is packed into a size. Compare two objects of the SAME size — tap each one.

A peek inside
Kavi runs 100 metres in 20 seconds. What is Kavi's speed?
Speed = distance ÷ time. The distance is 100 m and the time is 20 s, so speed = 100 ÷ 20 = 5. The distance is in metres and the time in seconds, so the unit is metres per second.
