I can explain how water, carbon and matter cycle in nature, and the greenhouse effect and climate change.

Kavi and the Never-Ending Journey

Kavi the owl 🦉 watches a raindrop 💧 soak into the soil, then days later rise again as mist. "That drop has made this trip a million times!" he hoots. He sees a tree 🌳 take in the very air a deer just breathed out, and he feels the Sun's warmth held close by the sky like a cosy blanket. "Nature runs in circles — water, carbon and matter all travel round and round and are never used up. But lately that blanket is growing too thick… come and discover why our Earth is warming."

What your child will learn

1Round and round: the water cycleWater is always on the move, powered by the Sun. Tap each stage to follow one drop of water all the way round — and back to the start! 🔁
2The carbon cycle — how matter travelsCarbon is a kind of matter that moves between the air, plants, animals and soil. Tap each part to learn its job.
3A blanket for the EarthThe greenhouse effect is like a blanket of gases around the Earth. Tap each card — a little keeps us cosy, but too much is a problem.
4Warmer or cooler? Better or worse?Use what you know about carbon and the greenhouse effect to predict, then tap to check. Tap Next test for more.

A peek inside

A puddle on the playground disappears on a hot, sunny day — the sky was clear and nobody wiped it up. Where did the water go, and which step of the water cycle is this?
The Sun's heat warmed the puddle until the liquid water turned into an invisible gas called water vapour, which rose into the air. Turning liquid water into vapour is called evaporation.

Try this at home: What makes water evaporate from the sea, and what does it turn into?
