Atmosphere and Weather

Earth is wrapped in a blanket of air — a mix of gases, mostly nitrogen and oxygen — and both the air and our water can be spoiled by pollution.

I can explain that the atmosphere is a mix of gases, that water can be impure, and how pollution affects both.

Kavi Rides the Wind

Kavi ties a string to a big balloon 🎈 and floats up, up into the sky. "Whee! Look — we can't see it, but the air all around us is a mix of invisible gases! Most of it is nitrogen, about a fifth is the oxygen 🫧 we breathe, and there's just a little carbon dioxide and water vapour. But uh-oh — down there, smoke from cars and factories is dirtying the air. Come on — let's find out what the air is made of, and how to keep it and our water clean!"

What your child will learn

1What the air is made ofThe atmosphere is the blanket of air around the Earth. It is not one gas — it is a mix. Tap each part.
2Pure water or impure water?Water is not always clean. Tap each card to see the difference.
3Gases, water and pollutionThink like a scientist — guess first, then tap to check! Tap Next test for more.
4Does it dirty the air or the water?Pollution harms both the air and the water. Tap the right box for each one!

A peek inside

Kavi floats high up on a balloon 🎈. What is the air all around made of?
