Kavi and the Travelling Seeds

Kavi watches a busy bee 🐝 dip into one flower 🌸 and carry golden pollen to the next one. "That's pollination!" hoots Kavi. Later a dandelion's fluffy seeds float off on the wind 🌬️, a coconut 🥥 bobs out to sea, and a sticky burr hitches a ride on a fox's fur 🦊. "Seeds are great travellers! And when one lands in warm, damp soil, it will germinate into a brand-new plant. Come and see how flowers make new life!"

What your child will learn

1How a flower makes a seedA flower has special parts that work together to make seeds. Tap each one to learn its job.
2From flower to new flowerFollow a flowering plant all the way round. The flower makes seeds, the seeds travel away and sprout, and a new plant opens new flowers! Tap each stage. 🔁
3How is each seed dispersed?Seeds must travel away from the parent plant to find their own light, water and space. Tap how each one is spread.
4Will this seed germinate?Germination is when a seed starts to grow into a seedling. Use what a seed needs to predict, then tap to check! Tap Next test for more.

A peek inside

A bee lands on a flower, flies to another flower, and brushes pollen onto its stigma. Soon a pollen cell joins the egg cell. Name the two steps that just happened.
Pollen being carried from one flower to another's stigma is pollination. A pollen cell joining the egg cell is fertilisation, and a seed starts to form.
