I can plan a fair test that changes one thing and keeps the rest the same, and show results in a table or bar chart.

Kavi Tests the Ramps

Kavi props a book under a ramp and lets a toy car go 🚗. "Does a taller ramp make my car roll farther? To find out, I'll make a fair test — I change only one thing (how high the ramp is) and keep everything else the same (same car, same floor, just let go). Then I measure how far it rolls and chart it 📊. Come on — let's test it fairly!"

What your child will learn

1What makes a test FAIRA fair test is how scientists find out what really causes something. Tap each clue to learn the rules of a fair test.
2Change it, or keep it the same?Kavi is testing if a taller ramp makes the car roll farther. Sort each part of the test — is it the ONE thing to change, or something to keep the same?
3Is this test fair?Read what Kavi did each time. Predict if the test is Fair or Not fair, then tap to check! Tap Next test for more.
4Record your resultsAfter a fair test, Kavi writes each distance in a table, then draws a bar chart. A taller bar means the car rolled farther.

A peek inside

Kavi wants to find out if a taller ramp makes a toy car roll farther. To keep the test FAIR, how many things should Kavi change at a time?
A fair test changes only ONE thing and keeps everything else the same. Here the one thing is how high the ramp is.

Try this at home: In a fair test, how many things do you change at a time?
