Kavi's Fair Plant Test

Kavi has two plants that look exactly the same 🪴🪴. "I want to find out what the leaves do," hoots Kavi. "But I mustn't change lots of things at once! A scientist runs a fair test: predict first, then change ONE thing and keep everything else the same. Let's meet the plant's parts, then test them fairly!"

What your child will learn

1What each plant part doesBefore we test, let's plan. Every part of a plant has its own job. Tap each part to learn it.
2Predict the part from its cluesKavi observed some clues. Predict which part it is, then tap to check — and see why! Tap Next test for more.
3Fair test or not fair?To find out what one part does, we run a fair test. Tap each card to see the rule.
4Is this test fair?Kavi set up some plant tests. For each one, decide: is it a fair test (change one thing, keep the rest the same) or not fair?

A peek inside

Kavi wants to find out if a plant needs its leaves. How should Kavi set up a fair test?
Take two matching plants. Cover the leaves on ONE and keep everything else the same — same pot, soil, water and light.

Try this at home: Which plant part takes in water from the soil?
