Pushes, Pulls and Motion
A push or a pull is a force — let's see how forces start, stop and steer things, and how we measure them!

investigate how pushes and pulls change how things move, and how to measure a force.

📖
Kavi and the Wobbly Trolley
Kavi leans on a shopping trolley 🛒 and pushes — it rolls forward! Then Kavi grabs the handle and pulls — it rolls back. "A push or a pull is called a force. A force can make a still thing move, make a moving thing stop, speed up, slow down, or change where it goes." Kavi clips on a stretchy force meter 🪝 to see how big each pull is. "Let's find out what forces do — and how to measure them!"

What your child will learn
1What is a force?A force is a push or a pull. Tap each part to learn what forces can do.
2Push or pull? Both are forces, but they move a thing in opposite ways. Tap each card.
3Is it a push or a pull?Every action below uses a force. Decide if it is mainly a push or a pull, then tap the right box.
4What will the force do?Use the rule: a bigger force makes a bigger change in motion. Predict each one, then tap to check!

A peek inside
Kavi kicks a still football ⚽ and it zooms off. Was the kick a push or a pull, and what did it do?
A kick sends the ball away from Kavi, so it is a push. The ball was still, and the force made it start moving.
Try this at home: What is a force? Give the two words.
