Kavi Shares the Harvest 🧺

The Great Oak gathered a basket of acorns, and Kavi wants to give away exactly 25% of them. "A percent is just parts out of a hundred," she hoots. "If I draw the whole basket as one long bar — that bar is 100% — I can split it to match any percent, find a part, find the whole, work out a discount, or share a rate fairly. One bar solves them all ⚡."

What your child will learn

1Split the whole bar into equal partsDraw the whole as one bar and cut it into 10 equal parts. Each part is one tenth of the bar, which is 10%. Tap the parts to shade them: 3 parts shaded is 3 tenths = 30%. Half the bar is 50%, and one quarter of the bar is 25%.
2The percentage bar runs 0% to 100%Lay the bar flat as a line. The left end is 0% (none of it) and the right end is 100% (all of it, the whole). Tap Hop +10 to travel 10% at a time: 10%, 20%, 30% … right up to 100%.

A peek inside

Find 25% of 80 using the bar.
the whole bar is 80 (that is 100%); 25% is one quarter, so split the bar into 4 equal parts: 80 ÷ 4

Try this at home: Find 50% of 60 on the bar: __
