Kavi's Data Desk 📊
Kavi collected loads of numbers and had to show them four different ways! "A table lists them in neat rows," hooted Kavi, "a pictogram uses pictures with a key, a bar chart uses tall bars, and a line graph shows how something changes over time. Learn to read the key or scale first — then every chart gives up its secrets!"

What your child will learn
1A table lists data in rowsA table puts each thing and its number side by side. Read across a row to find one value, and down a column to compare. Tap each line to hear it.
2A pictogram uses a keyA pictogram shows data with pictures. Each picture stands for more than one — that is the key. Here the key is: one 🍎 stands for 2 apples. Multiply the pictures by the key.
3A bar chart compares with barsA bar chart uses the height of each bar to show its number — the tallest bar is the greatest, the shortest is the least. Read the number on top of each bar; don't count squares.
4A line graph shows change over timeA line graph joins points with a line to show how something changes over time. The line going up means it grew; going down means it fell; flat means it stayed the same. Read time along the bottom and the value up the side.

A peek inside
A table shows pets owned: 🐶 dogs = 14, 🐱 cats = 9, 🐟 fish = 20. How many pets altogether?
add the rows: 14 + 9 + 20
Try this at home: Table: 🍎 apples — 12, 🍌 bananas — 20, 🥭 mangoes — 15. Which is the GREATEST? __
