Kavi's Secret Dividing Keys 🔑

Kavi doesn't do long division to know if a number shares out evenly! "I have three secret keys 🔑," hoots Kavi. "For 4 I peek at the last two digits. For 6 I check it's even AND a three-number. For 25 I just see if it ends in 00, 25, 50 or 75!"

What your child will learn

1Divisible by 4? Check the last two digitsA number is divisible by 4 if the number made by its last two digits is divisible by 4. The lit numbers are the fours: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24… Take 728: its last two digits are 28, and 28 is a four — so 728 is divisible by 4.
2Divisible by 6? It must pass BOTH testsSix is 2 × 3, so a number is divisible by 6 only when it is divisible by 2 AND by 3 — both, not just one. Tap each card to see the two checks.
3Divisible by 25? Watch the endingA number is divisible by 25 only if it ends in 00, 25, 50 or 75 — nothing else works. The lit numbers are the twenty-fives. See the ending pattern repeat: 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150…
4Divisible by 4, or not?Use the ÷4 key: look only at the last two digits. Tap Yes if the number is divisible by 4, or No if it is not.

A peek inside

Is 536 divisible by 4?
look only at the last two digits → 36, and 36 ÷ 4 = 9

Try this at home: To test ÷4, which digits do you look at?
