📖
Kavi's Busy Morning 🕗
Kavi looks up at the big clock. "The long hand isn't on a number — it's between two numbers!" hoots Kavi. "Count on in ones and I can read the exact minute. Then I'll time how long breakfast takes, and check the calendar to see what day it is. Come count the minutes with me!"
🎓
What your child will learn
1Read the time to the minuteEach number on the clock is 5 minutes, and each tiny mark between the numbers is 1 minute. To read the exact time, count the numbers in fives, then the extra marks in ones. Here the long hand is a little past the 4: 5, 10, 15, 20… then three more marks: 21, 22, 23 — 23 minutes past 2.
2Measure how long it lastsA duration is how long something takes. To find it, start at the start time and count on in minutes to the end time. Breakfast starts at 8:00 — tap Hop +10 and count on: 10, 20, 30, 40.
3The days of the weekA calendar shows the days in order. There are 7 days in a week, and after Sunday it starts again at Monday — it repeats. Tap each day to hear it.
4A week and a yearA calendar is built from two patterns that repeat. Tap each card to compare them.

A peek inside
The long hand is two marks past the 7 and the short hand is just past the 9 🕘. What is the exact time?
count fives to the 7 → 35, then on in ones +2 → 37 · short hand just past 9 → hour is 9
Try this at home: The long hand is one mark past the 5. Count: fives to the 5 = 25, then +1 = __ minutes past.
