Kavi's Three Jars 🫙
Kavi the owl lines up three jars on the shelf 🫙 — one for hundreds, one for tens, one for ones. Kavi drops in 3 big hundred-blocks, 4 ten-sticks and 7 little cubes. "That's 3 hundreds, 4 tens and 7 ones," hoots Kavi, "— three hundred and forty-seven! Every three-digit number is just some hundreds, some tens and some ones."

What your child will learn
1Three places, three sizesA three-digit number is built from hundreds (big flats), tens (rods) and ones (cubes). Tap the 100s, 10s and 1s buttons to build 347: 3 flats, 4 rods and 7 cubes.
2When a place is emptyBuild 408: 4 hundreds, no tens, and 8 ones. Tap the 10s buttons down to 0 — the tens column is empty, but we still write a 0 there to hold the place.
3Break it into its partsEvery three-digit number splits into its place values. Build 526: tap to set 5 hundreds (500), 2 tens (20) and 6 ones (6). Written out, 526 = 500 + 20 + 6 — that is called expanded form.
4The hundreds ladderThe bright numbers are the pure hundreds: 100, 200, 300 … 900. Every three-digit number sits just after one of these, with its tens and ones added on.
