Kavi Counts the Fruit Stand 🍎

At the market Kavi lined up the fruit baskets into neat towers. "The tallest tower has the most," said Kavi, "and the shortest has the least." Then a friend asked, "How many more apples than pears?" Kavi grinned: "Easy — I just take the small number away from the big one!"

What your child will learn

1Which is the most? Which is the least? Each bar shows how many. The taller the bar, the more there are. Look along the tops: the tallest bar has the most, the shortest has the least.
2How many MORE?To find how many more one bar has than another, take the small number away from the big one. The gap between the two bar-tops is the difference.
3Read a graph someone else madeA picture graph uses a picture for each one counted. Read it just the same: tallest = most, shortest = least, and subtract to compare.
