I can describe 3D shapes by faces, edges and vertices; sort 2D and 3D shapes.

Kavi's Block Tower 🧱

Kavi builds a tower from a wooden block. "This cube has flat sides I can touch — those are its faces. Where two faces meet is a sharp line — an edge. And where the edges meet is a pointy corner — a vertex!" Kavi hoots, "Every solid shape has its own count of faces, edges and vertices. Let's learn to describe them!"

🎓

What your child will learn

1Faces, edges and verticesEvery solid (3D) shape has three parts to describe. A face is a flat side you can touch. An edge is the straight line where two faces meet. A vertex is a pointy corner where edges meet (two or more vertices are called vertices). Tap each part to hear its name.
2A cube and a sphereDescribe each solid by counting its faces, edges and vertices. A cube 🧊 is full of flat parts; a sphere ⚽ is round all over. Tap each card!
3Flat shapes have sides and cornersA flat (2D) shape is drawn on paper — it has no faces or edges, only sides and corners. Count its straight sides and corners to name it. Tap each shape to hear its name.
4Flat or solid? Sort them
🔍

A peek inside

Describe a cube 🧊. How many faces, edges and vertices does it have?
flat square sides = 6 faces · lines where faces meet = 12 edges · pointy corners = 8 vertices

Try this at home: A cube has __ faces, __ edges and __ vertices.
