Division: share & group
Two ways to divide — share a total fairly, or make equal groups — and how it flips the times tables.

I can understand division as sharing equally and grouping, and relate it to the times tables.

📖
Kavi Shares the Acorns 🌰
Kavi has 12 acorns 🌰 and 3 hungry friends. "If I share them out one-for-you, one-for-you, one-for-you… everyone gets 4!" Then Kavi tries the other way: "Or I can make groups of 4 — that also makes 3 groups. Dividing is just the times tables flipped around!"
🎓
What your child will learn
1Make equal groupsGrouping means: how many equal groups can I make? Here every basket holds 3 acorns 🌰. Tap each group and count them with Kavi.
2Hop into groupsTo divide by grouping, start at the total and count equal hops. Start at 0 and hop +3 up to 15: each hop is one group of 3.
3Share it fairlySharing means: give the total out one-for-each until it is gone. A ten-frame has 2 rows of 5. Tap Add 5 once — one full row, one empty row.
4Flip the times tableNo pictures now! Counting in 3s lights up 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 — that is the 3 times table. Division just reads it backwards.

A peek inside
Kavi makes groups of 2 from 10 shells 🐚. How many groups?
count by 2: 2,4,6,8,10 → 5 hops
Try this at home: Make groups: How many groups of 2 are in 8? __
