The tin that rolls and stands

Ayu helps at the market stall. She has a milk tin, a tissue box and a coconut. The coconut rolls away. The tin rolls too, but it also stands still on its end. The box never rolls. Ayu asks, why can the tin both roll and stand still? By the end I can tell flat from curved, count faces, edges and corners, and name the flat shapes on a solid.

A peek inside

How many faces does a cube have? Turn it, mark each face, count the hidden ones too.
I put a sticker on the top face: 1.
I turn it and mark front 2, back 3, left 4, right 5.
The bottom is hidden, so I mark it last: 6.
No face has two stickers, so a cube has 6 faces.

Try this at home: How many faces does a cube have? Turn it, mark each face, count the hidden ones too.
