How many mangoes?

Mei sells mangoes at the market. She packs 100 mangoes in each crate and 10 in each bag. The rest stay loose. Today she has 3 crates, 2 bags and 5 loose mangoes. Omar asks, how many mangoes is that, and how do we write it? Mei says the answer hides in the places. By the end I can build, read, write and count numbers to 1000 with blocks, charts and an abacus.

A peek inside

Wati has 3 flats, 2 rods and 5 cubes. Write the number and say why it is not 352.
3 flats are 300.
2 rods are 20.
5 cubes are 5.
300 + 20 + 5 = 325. Tens come before ones, so it is not 352.

Try this at home: Wati has 3 flats, 2 rods and 5 cubes. Write the number and say why it is not 352.
