The Hidden Shape

Ayu sits at the market with her aunt. A batik cloth has a border of shapes. It goes circle, square, circle, square, circle. Then a stain hides the next shape. Ayu wonders which shape is under the stain. Her aunt smiles and says the border follows a rule. How can Ayu find the hidden shape? By the end I can find the rule in a shape pattern and finish or make my own.

A peek inside

A tile border goes circle, square, circle, square, circle, square. Box the repeating part and name the pattern.
Look: the group circle, square comes round again.
Box circle, square. It has 2 shapes.
The border repeats this group 3 times.
Answer: the repeating part is circle, square, so it is a circle, square pattern.

Try this at home: A tile border goes circle, square, circle, square, circle, square. Box the repeating part and name the pattern.
