Kavi's Secret Number 🔢

Kavi hides a number and gives two clues 🕵️: "It's bigger than 3 and smaller than 5." Kavi thinks out loud: "Bigger than 3 means 4, 5, 6… Smaller than 5 means 4, 3, 2… The only number on both lists is 4 — and 4 fits both clues, so that's my secret number!"

What your child will learn

1Each clue points one wayPicture the numbers on a line. Bigger than 3 points right of 3 — so 4, 5, 6, 7 … Smaller than 7 points left of 7 — so 6, 5, 4 … The hop line helps you see the numbers each clue allows.
2Keep only the numbers that fit bothLine up 1 to 10. Cross off everything 3 and smaller (the first clue says bigger than 3). Then cross off everything 7 and bigger (smaller than 7). Whatever is left fits both.
3Close clues pin ONE numberWhen the two clues are right next to each other, only one number can fit. Bigger than 5 and smaller than 7: the only number squeezed between is 6.
