I can list all the ways in order (smallest first) so none is missed, and count them.

📖
Kavi's Tidy List 📝
Kavi wants every way to make 3 with two numbers 🔢. "If I jump around I'll miss one!" says Kavi. So Kavi starts with the smallest first number and climbs: 0+3, 1+2, 2+1, 3+0. "Smallest first means I never skip a way — and now I can count them: 4 ways!"

What your child will learn
1Go in order — miss nothingStart at the smallest and hop up one at a time: 0, 1, 2, 3 … When you move in order you land on every number and skip none. That same trick works for listing ways.
2Let the first number leadTo find every way to make 3 with two numbers, let the first number count up in order: 0, then 1, then 2, then 3. The second number just finishes the 3.
3Now count the listOnce the list is in order, the last job is easy: count the ways. For make-3 the ways are 0+3, 1+2, 2+1, 3+0 — so count 1, 2, 3, 4.
