Kavi's Magic Hat 🎩
Kavi finds a magic hat! Drop 3 acorns inside and — poof! — 3 more pop out: 6 acorns in all 🌰. "That's a double!" says Kavi. "And if I share the 6 fairly with a friend, we each get 3 — that's a half!"

What your child will learn
1Two equal rowsA ten-frame has two rows of 5. Add counters one at a time and watch the two numbers: the filled ones and the empty ones. When are the two parts equal?
2Two equal hopsHop 3, then hop 3 again — the same hop twice! Two equal hops of 3 land on 6. That's double 3.
3All the doubles to 10Count by 2s. Each bright number is a double: the 1st is double 1, the 2nd is double 2 … the 5th is double 5.
4Make two equal partsFind the split of 8 where both parts are the same. The bond starts on the matching split — now move it with ◀ less and more ▶ and watch the two numbers.
🔍
A peek inside
Kavi drops 4 acorns 🌰 into the magic hat. Every acorn gets a twin. How many acorns now?
