Kavi's Buddy Walk 🚶

Kavi leads a nature walk with one rule: everybody needs a buddy! 6 friends pair up — 3 pairs, and nobody is left out 👧👦. But when a 7th friend arrives, one friend has no buddy 🧒. "I can tell who gets left out before we even line up," says Kavi. "It's the secret of odd and even numbers!"

🎓

What your child will learn

1Does everyone have a buddy? When friends line up in pairs and nobody is left over, the number is even. Tap the buddy pairs and count with Kavi!
2Pairs in the ten-frameAdd counters two at a time — each new pair has a partner. Say the new number out loud with Kavi.
3Odd, even, odd, even …Pairs with a partner → even. One left over → odd. On this number track the bright numbers are the odd ones: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9. The faded ones are even.
4Check the last digitBig numbers? Just peek at the last digit! The bright numbers are even — the count-by-2 numbers you already know.
