Kavi the Spinning Robot 🤖

Kavi plays a robot game. "Make a quarter turn clockwise!" calls a friend. Kavi spins a little way round and now faces a new way. "A full turn brings me all the way back to the start," hoots Kavi, "a half turn is halfway round, and clockwise is the way a clock's hands go. Let's turn!"

What your child will learn

1A turn is a part of a whole circleThink of a full turn as all the way around a circle, split into 4 equal parts. A quarter turn is 1 of those 4 parts. A half turn is 2 of 4 (halfway round). Tap the parts to shade how far you turn.
2Clockwise is the way clock hands moveClockwise means turning the same way a clock's hands go. From 12 round to 3 is a quarter turn clockwise. From 12 round to 6 is a half turn. All the way back to 12 is a full turn.
3Quarter turn or half turn?A turn is measured by how far round you go. A quarter turn is one of the four corners of the circle. A half turn is two of them — you end up facing the opposite way. Tap each card.

A peek inside

Kavi faces up ⬆️ and makes one quarter turn clockwise. Which way does Kavi face now?
clockwise quarter turn: up → right (like 12 → 3 on a clock)

Try this at home: A half turn is the same as how many quarter turns?
