Kavi Nearly Shares a Fib

Kavi was about to share an amazing post — "Owls can now read minds!" — when Kavi stopped and ran four quick checks. Who said this? No real author. When? No date at all. Does anyone else say so? Not one trusted site. Could a machine have made it? The photo owl had six toes and melty feathers. "Phew — not true," Kavi hooted, and deleted the share. "I verify before I trust — I check the source, the date, and whether an independent source agrees."

What your child will learn

1Four quick checks before you trust a claim
2Source · Date · Confirmation · AI-madeA claim is a statement that something is true. Before you trust it, tap each of the four checks to hear exactly what to look for.
3A feeling is not a checkA claim can feel true and still be false. What makes it trustworthy is not how it feels, but what the four checks find.
4Run the checks in orderVerifying a claim is a little program — steps in order. Press ▶ Run and watch Kavi check a surprising post before deciding whether to trust it.
🔍

A peek inside

A post claims "A new law bans all homework!" It names no author and links to nothing. Kavi runs the first check. What should Kavi look at first?
the first check is the SOURCE — who published this?

Try this at home: The first thing to check about any claim is who published it — the ____.
