Green Computing & E-Waste
Coding & Systems · systems — how the technology we use affects the planet, and how to cut down e-waste by reducing, reusing and recycling

Kavi and the Drawer of Dead Gadgets
Kavi pulled open a drawer and gasped — a cracked phone, two tangled chargers, an old tablet, and a pile of dead batteries. "Where do all these go when we're done with them?" Kavi wondered. The thrown-away gadget pile has a name: e-waste (electronic waste). Every phone and laptop takes energy and materials to make, and old ones hide toxic bits like lead and mercury — so tossing them in the bin can poison the soil and water. "But here's the good news," Kavi hooted, lining the gadgets up. "We can reduce, reuse and recycle — and a recycled phone even gives back real gold and copper. Technology has an impact on the planet… and we get to shrink it!"
