Kavi Looks Back at Term 3

Term 3 is done, and Kavi curled up to remember the three big ideas. "We learned that a source can show only one side — that is bias — so we ask who made it and what they want. We learned that misinformation is false news that spreads when people share before they check, so we stop, check and verify first. And we learned about consent — before we share a photo, video or story about someone else, we ask them first, and if they say no, we don't." Kavi smiled. "Let's look back and make sure every idea is firmly in our heads."

What your child will learn

1Everything we learned in Term 3This term had three big ideas about thinking carefully online. Tap each one to remember its job — then you will be ready for the review questions.
2A balanced source, or a biased one?A balanced source shows both sides, so you can judge fairly. A biased source shows only one side — it can even be true and still be biased, if it leaves the other side out. That is why you ask who made it and what they want.
3Share it now, or stop and check? Some things are already checked by a trusted source, so they are safe to share. Others are unchecked — maybe false news made to spread fast. For those you STOP and check first. Tap the right box for each one.
4Do you need to ask first? When you share something about someone else, it is their face, their moment and their choice — so you ask first. When it is only about you, or no one else is in it, you don't need anyone's permission. Tap the right box for each one.

A peek inside

A snack advert says "KidCrunch is the yummiest, healthiest snack ever!" and every word is true. Can it still be biased?
