Kavi and Friends Write One Report Together

Three friends had to write one report about the school garden. "Let's not each make our own copy," said Kavi. "We would end up with three different reports!" So Kavi made one shared document and sent a link, choosing who could edit and who could only view. Now everyone opened the same copy. As Pim typed the title, Kavi watched Pim's cursor move live — and Kavi's own words saved automatically. When Kavi spotted a sentence to improve, Kavi did not delete it — Kavi left a comment to ask first. Later someone erased a whole paragraph by accident. "No problem," said Kavi, opening the version history and bringing the old words back. "In a shared document we work as one team — and nothing is ever truly lost."

What your child will learn

1The four powers of a shared documentA shared document lives in one place online, so everyone opens the same copy and works together. Four powers make that possible. Tap each one to hear its job.
2One shared doc, or many separate copies?Your team needs ONE finished report. You could each make your own copy and try to join them later — or you could all work in one shared document. One of these keeps everyone together.
3How to collaborate in a shared documentWorking together in one document is a little program — steps in order. Press ▶ Run and watch Kavi's team write one report as a team.
4Good teamwork in a shared doc, or not?You are all in ONE shared document writing one report. Tap the box where each action belongs — does it help the team, or break the shared work?

A peek inside

Put these in order to collaborate on one report: edit together · create the shared document · share it and set each person's role · agree who writes which part.
first make the one doc, then share it with roles, then agree the parts, then work together

Try this at home: One document that everyone opens the same copy of and works on together is a ____ document.
