Kavi Adds a Second Lock

Kavi was about to log in to a game. "My password is a secret," thought Kavi, "but what if someone guessed it?" Kavi tapped Settings and turned on 2-step verification — now logging in asks for the password and a one-time code sent straight to Kavi's phone. "Two locks are harder to pick than one!" Then Kavi looked up at the address bar: it read https:// with a tiny closed padlock 🔒. "The s means secure — my words are scrambled so snoopers can't read them." Kavi smiled. "A second step to get in, and a padlock to keep it private. Now that's cyber-safe!"

What your child will learn

1Spot a secure addressBefore you type anything secret, look at the address bar at the top of the browser. A secure page starts with https:// and shows a closed padlock 🔒. Tap each part to learn its job.
2https & padlock → private connectionOnly type a password where the connection is private. https:// with a padlock is private; plain http:// with no padlock is not. Tap the box each page belongs in.
32-step verificationA password is one lock. 2-step verification adds a second lock — a one-time code that only reaches YOU. Tap each card to compare.
4The second step in actionLogging in with 2-step is a short plan — steps in order. Press ▶ Run and watch each check happen.

A peek inside

Kavi is about to log in. The address bar reads http://play.example and shows no padlock. Should Kavi type the password here?
http has no s and shows no padlock, so the connection is not scrambled

Try this at home: What does the <b>s</b> in https stand for?
