Kavi Makes a Project About the Forest

Kavi wanted to tell everyone about the forest, so Kavi made a project on the tablet. First Kavi typed some text — words telling what lives in the forest. Then Kavi added a picture of tall green trees. "It still feels quiet," said Kavi. So Kavi added audio — the sound of birds singing — and then a short video of a stream flowing over rocks. Now the project had words to read, a picture and video to see, and sound to hear, all in one place. "When I put different kinds of media together, it is called multimedia," Kavi hooted, "and my forest project came alive!"

What your child will learn

1Four kinds of mediaMedia are the different ways a project can show its idea. A project can hold text to read, images to look at, audio to listen to, and video that moves. Tap each one to hear its job.
2One kind of media, or many together?A project with only text still tells people things, but it can feel flat. When you combine media — text with images, audio, and video — people can read, see, AND hear your idea. Putting many kinds of media together is called multimedia.
3How to combine mediaMaking a multimedia project is a little program — steps in order. Press ▶ Run and watch Kavi build a forest project from text, an image, audio, and video.
