Kavi Builds a Forest Quiz

Kavi wanted to make a quiz about the forest for friends to play. First Kavi set a score to 0. Then Kavi asked a question: "How many legs does a spider have?" The player tapped an answer. Now Kavi used a choice — a bit of selection: IF the answer is correct, add 1 to the score · ELSE keep the score the same. Kavi asked a few more questions, each one checked the same way. At the end Kavi showed the final score. "A quiz is just a loop of questions," Kavi hooted, "where a choice decides whether the score goes up!"

What your child will learn

1What a quiz program needsAn interactive quiz asks questions and keeps score. It needs a few parts working together. Tap each part to hear its job.
2Selection + a score, step by stepA quiz is a little program. The choice (IF/ELSE) is the selection — it decides whether the score goes up. Press Run and watch Kavi score one answer.
3What will the final score be?The score starts at 0. For each answer the rule is IF correct, add 1 · ELSE keep the same. Read the four answers, count only the correct ones, then reveal.

A peek inside

The quiz rule is IF the answer is correct, add 1 to the score · ELSE keep the score the same. A player gives a wrong answer. What happens to the score?
the IF is false, so the ELSE road runs

Try this at home: In a quiz, the choice that checks IF the answer is correct is called ____.
