Kavi Learns to Fly Across the Keys

Kavi used to type with just one claw, hopping all over the keyboard hunting for each letter — peck… peck… peck. It was slow, and Kavi's eyes kept darting down to find the keys. "There must be a faster way!" Then Teacher Owl showed the secret: rest both hands on the middle row of keys — the home row. The left hand sits on A S D F, the right hand sits on J K L ;, and the thumbs wait over the space bar. Now each finger was already close to its own keys. Kavi could type with both hands at once and keep looking at the screen instead of the keyboard. Peck-peck turned into tap-tap-tap-tap — fast and smooth. "I'm flying across the keys!" Kavi cheered.

What your child will learn

1Where both hands restFast typing starts from the home row — the middle row of letter keys. Both hands rest here so every finger is close to its own keys. Tap each part to learn it.
2Left hand or right hand?In fast typing, each hand takes care of the keys on its own side of the keyboard. The left hand types keys on the left, the right hand types keys on the right. Tap the right box for each letter.
3One finger, or both hands? Why is typing with both hands faster than poking with one finger? Tap each card to compare.
