Kavi's Quiet Song

Kavi tapped play on a favourite song — but nothing came out! The screen looked fine, yet it was silent. Kavi did not panic or shout "It's broken!" Instead Kavi took a breath. "Let me try a simple check first." Kavi looked: was the volume turned up? It was all the way down. Kavi slid it up — and the music burst out! "I fixed it myself!" When a device has a problem, don't give up right away. Stay calm and try a simple check — is it on? is it charged? is the sound up? Many problems have an easy fix.

What your child will learn

1Give up, or try a simple check? When a device won't work, you have a choice. You can give up and say it's broken — or you can stay calm and try a simple check first. A simple check is a small, easy step that often fixes the problem. Tap each card to compare.
2A power check, or a sound check?Different problems need different simple checks. If the screen is dark or dead, do a power check. If you can't hear anything, do a sound check. Tap the right box for each problem.
3The screen is black — what simple check first?Kavi presses the button but the tablet screen stays black. Nothing shows at all. Predict the best simple check to try first, then reveal.
