Kavi Makes a Page About Owls

Kavi wanted to make a page all about owls. First Kavi typed a title at the top: All About Owls. Under it, Kavi typed some text — a few sentences telling what owls do. "But a page with only words looks plain," said Kavi. So Kavi added a picture of a wide-eyed owl right beside the words. Now the title, the text, and the picture sat together on one page. "This is a document," Kavi hooted happily, "and the last thing I must do is save it so it isn't lost!"

What your child will learn

1What goes on the pageA document is a page you make on a device. It holds a title, some text, and often a picture — all together on one page. Tap each part to hear its job.
2Text alone, or text with a picture?A document with only words still tells people things, but it can look plain. Adding a picture that matches the text makes the page clearer and more interesting. Words and picture work together.
3How to make a documentMaking a document is a little program — steps in order. Press ▶ Run and watch Kavi build a page with a title, text, and a picture.
