Kavi's Robot Runs Amok
Kavi gave the robot a long list of steps to make breakfast — but it pressed start on the toaster before putting in any bread, then tried to repeat a hop 3 times after it had already walked away. What a muddle! "A computer does exactly what the list says, in order, even a step in the wrong place," said Kavi. "A bug is just a step out of order. A great coder is a bug hunter — find the step that lied and move it to where it belongs. Challenge on!"

What your child will learn
1Spot the muddled listA computer runs every step in the order you write it. Some of these plans make sense. Others have one step that jumped ahead — it needs to come later. Tap the right box for each one.
2Find the bug and where it belongsDebugging has two parts: find the step that is out of order, then say where it belongs. A bug is normal — it just means one step moved. Predict the fix, then reveal.
3A fixed program — with a loopHere is Kavi's robot done the RIGHT way. It even uses a loop to water every plant. Press ▶ Run and watch. If any step were out of place, that would be a bug.
4One bug, then the fixBoth plans try to make a drawing and save it. Tap each to hear it. One has a step in the wrong order — the other moved that one step to the right place, and now the job works.

A peek inside
Robot plan: 1. press start on the toaster · 2. put the bread in · 3. get a slice of bread. Which step is out of order, and where does it go?
you need the bread before you can put it in or start the toaster
Try this at home: A bug is a step that is...?
