📖
Kavi Makes a Favourites Chart
"Let's find out what our class loves best!" hooted Kavi. First, one question: "What is your favourite pet?" Then Kavi made a tally mark for every answer — that is collecting data. Last, Kavi drew one bar for each pet, as tall as its count. Now anyone could see the winner in a blink! "Ask, collect, chart," cheered Kavi. "Three steps turn answers into a picture you can read!"

What your child will learn
1Ask, collect, chartTo turn answers into a chart you follow three steps. First ask one question. Then collect the data — one tally mark for each answer. Last, chart it — draw one bar as tall as each count. Tap each step to hear it.
2Our class favourite petKavi asked the class, "What is your favourite pet?", tallied every answer, then drew one bar for each pet as tall as its count. Now the chart shows the counts at a glance. The tallest bar was chosen the most.
3Read the tallest barTo read a bar chart, find the tallest bar for most and the shortest bar for least. Read the chart, say your answer in your head, then reveal to check.
4Collecting, or charting?Making a chart has two big jobs. Collecting is gathering the answers (asking and tallying). Charting is drawing and reading the bars. Tap the right box for each action.
