Kavi's Aching Wing

Kavi wanted to flap ten times, so Kavi wrote: flap, flap, flap, flap, flap... "Oof, my wing is tired of writing!" Then Kavi had a clever idea. "I'll just say it once and tell the computer how many times!" Kavi wrote repeat 10 times: flap. "That's a loop — it repeats a step for me. One line does the whole job!"

What your child will learn

1A loop does the same job with less writingBoth of these make Kavi hop 4 times. One writes 'hop' over and over. The other uses a loop — it says the step once and how many times to repeat. Tap each to hear it.
2When does a loop help?A loop is great when the same step repeats. If every step is different, a loop can't shorten it. Tap the right box for each plan.
3A loop repeats the steps inside itThe repeat line is the loop. The indented steps are its body — they run again for each turn. Press Run and watch Kavi water 3 plants with one little loop.
🔍

A peek inside

Kavi's loop says repeat 3 times: hop. How many hops happen in all?
the body 'hop' runs once each time, 3 times

Try this at home: A loop lets you ____ a step instead of writing it again and again.
