Kavi's Robot Goes Backwards

Kavi's robot tried to get dressed. It put on its shoes — then its socks! "Hoot, that can't be right," said Kavi. "The computer did exactly what the list said, even the muddled step. A bug is just one step in the wrong order." Kavi grinned. "A good coder doesn't start over — we find the step that's out of place and move it to where it belongs. Let's fix it!"

What your child will learn

1Is the order right?A computer does every step in the order you write it. Some of these lists make sense. Others have a step that jumped ahead — it needs to come later! Tap the right box for each one.
2Find the bug and where it belongsDebugging has two parts: find the step that's out of order, then say where it belongs. A bug is normal — it just means one step moved. Predict the fix, then reveal.
3One bug, then the fixBoth lists try to brush teeth. Tap each to hear it. One has a step in the wrong order — the other moved that one step to the right place and now the job works.

A peek inside

Get dressed: 1. put on a sock · 2. put on a shoe · 3. put on the other sock. Which step is out of order, and where does it go?
both socks must go on before any shoe
