Inside a Poem
Reading — read a poem in three layers: its imagery (what you see and hear), its form (line breaks, stanzas, rhythm, rhyme), and the effect the two create together

Kavi Opens a Poem Like a Box
Kavi finds a short poem tucked in an old book. "A poem is small," he hoots, "but it has layers, like a little box with treasure inside." He reads it three times. "First I look at the imagery — the pictures and sounds the words paint. Then I look at the form — the line breaks, the stanzas, the rhythm and the rhyme. Last I ask about the effect — the feeling the imagery and form make together. Three layers, one poem. That is how I analyse it."
