Kavi Reads Three Very Different Books

Kavi the owl opens three books in one afternoon. The first is a legend — a larger-than-life hero on a quest. The second is a myth — a god who explains why the sea is salt. The third is a nonsense tale from Wonderland, all upside-down wordplay. "Each book is a different genre — a different kind of story," Kavi hoots, "so I read each one by its own rules. In the fable I look for the moral; in the mystery I follow the clues; in the nonsense verse I just enjoy the play. First I spot the signposts and name the genre — then the genre tells me how to read it."
