Kavi Reads Between the Lines

Kavi the owl closes a story and sits very still. "That story was about a tiny mouse," he hoots, "but it wasn't really about a mouse at all." Under the events, Kavi hears a quiet message: even the smallest friend can do something great. "That hidden message is the theme," he says. "A story almost never says its theme out loud — it shows it, through what the characters do and learn. To find it, I don't just ask what happened — I ask what it means."
