Kavi Reads Behind the Bright Words

"Every advert is trying to get you to want something," said Kavi, tapping a shiny poster. "That is its message — usually, buy this! But it does not just say it — it uses tricks: a big claim like 'the BEST ever', happy faces so it feels fun, bright colours to grab your eyes, and 'only today!' to make you hurry. A clever reader looks past the bright words and asks: what are they selling, which trick is this, and is it really true?"

What your child will learn

1Selling what? → Which trick? → Is it true?An advert's message is almost always 'buy or want this thing'. To read one well, name the message first, then spot the trick it uses, then ask whether the claim is a real fact or just a feeling.
2How the pictures persuade youA poster is built from parts, and each part has a job: to make you want the thing. Tap each one to see the trick it is playing!
3Read the advert — then name each trick
4A feeling, or something you can check?Adverts mix tricks (feelings) with real facts. A fact you could measure or check; a trick is just there to make you want it. Put each line in the right box!
🔍

A peek inside

An advert shouts: "The BEST toy in the WHOLE WORLD!" Which trick is this?
'best in the world' can't be checked or measured → it is a boast, not a fact

Try this at home: What is the main MESSAGE behind almost every advert?
