Kavi Holds Two Books Side by Side

Kavi pulls two books about bats off his shelf. "They are both about bats," he hoots, "but they do not say the same things!" One is a playful rhyme; the other is a plain fact sheet. "When two texts share a topic," Kavi says, "I can compare them. I check where they agree, where they differ, and where one fills a gap the other leaves. I look at three things: their content (the facts), their view (the opinion), and their style (how it is written)."

What your child will learn

1Compare content, view, and styleWhen two texts are about the same topic, compare them through three lenses. Tap each one to see what it means.
2Agree · differ · fill a gapYou compare texts only when they share a topic. Then, point by point, two texts can agree (say the same), differ (say opposite things), or fill a gap (one adds what the other leaves out).
3Two texts about the SAME parkBoth of these are about one city park, so we can compare them. Read each card and notice how they differ in content, view, and style.
4Sort how each pair of texts compares

A peek inside

Text A and Text B both say a bee has six legs, but Text A calls bees "amazing" and Text B just lists facts. Do the two texts agree or differ?
