Kavi Adds to the Talk

"A good talk grows!" said Kavi. "When someone shares an idea, I listen first. Then I add to it. I can agree — \"I agree because…\". I can build on it — \"Building on that, we could also…\". Or I can gently disagree — \"I see it a little differently because…\". The secret? I always give a reason. That is how a talk grows bigger together!"

What your child will learn

1Kavi and his friends build on one ideaTap each line to hear it. One friend starts an idea. Then the others add to it — see how each person uses a stem and gives a reason.
2Agree · Build on · Gently challenge — with a reasonWhen you join a discussion, listen to the idea first. Then add to it in one of three ways. Whichever you choose, give a reason so the group understands your thinking.
3Which responses add to the idea?

A peek inside

Watch me add to a talk. Leo says: "We should have a class pet." I think the same. How do I show I agree and add a reason?
use the agree stem and finish it with a reason → "I agree, because…"

Try this at home: What do you do first, before you add to someone's idea?
