Kavi Visits the Bakery
Kavi pushed open the bakery door. "I saw golden loaves, I heard the oven timer ding, I smelled warm bread — all at once!" he hooted. Then he tried something clever: he put two senses in one sentence — I saw the golden loaves and smelled the warm bread. "And," said Kavi, "I swap plain words for vivid ones: not nice bread — warm, crusty bread. Now the reader is right here with me!"

What your child will learn
1Five senses, one bakeryTap each card to hear the sense. Each one notices something different in the bakery.
2Which sense notices this?
3Blend senses, pick vivid wordsA fuller description does two things: it puts more than one sense in a sentence, and it swaps plain words for vivid ones. Ask: what could I SEE, HEAR, SMELL, TASTE, or TOUCH here?
