Kavi Lets the Marks Steer His Voice
Kavi reads a long line all in one breath and runs out of air. "Oops!" he laughs. "The marks are road signs for my voice. A full stop . means stop and breathe. A comma , means a tiny pause. A ? makes my voice lift up. And a ! is a lift with feeling. Watch the marks, and the reading sounds just right!"

What your child will learn
1Each mark steers your voiceTap each mark to hear what Kavi's voice does. The marks are signs that tell your voice when to pause, stop, or lift.
2Let the marks guide your voiceAs you read, watch for each mark and let your voice follow it. That is what makes reading sound smooth.
3Read each line, obeying every markTap each line and read it aloud. Pause at the comma, stop and breathe at the full stop, lift at the ? and !.
4Sort each sentence by its mark
