Kavi Tells and Kavi Asks
"Some sentences tell you something," said Kavi. "Like The sun is up. A telling sentence is a statement and it ends with a full stop . Other sentences ask something — Is the sun up? An asking sentence is a question. It ends with a question mark ? and often starts with who, what, where, when, why or is/do. Let's sort telling from asking!"

What your child will learn
1Hear how they sound differentTap each line to hear it. Telling sentences end flat with a full stop. Asking sentences lift up at the end with a question mark.
2Full stop or question mark?A telling sentence (statement) gives a fact and ends with a full stop. An asking sentence (question) asks for an answer and ends with a question mark.
3Is it telling or asking?
🔍
A peek inside
Is this telling or asking, and what mark does it need: The cat sat on the mat ___
it tells a fact → statement → full stop
