sort and record simple information in a list or picture table (one row per thing, a tick in the right column), and look things up safely with an adult

📖
Kavi Keeps a Tally
Kavi the owl had a messy pile of picture cards. "Let me sort them into groups," said Kavi, "then write down how many of each — one row per thing, a tick in the right column. Now I can look things up in my chart! And when I want to find out more on a screen, I always ask a grown-up first. Let's sort and record together!"
🎓
What your child will learn
1Put each card in its groupFirst, sort. Look at each picture-word and decide its group — is it a pet, some food, or a toy? Tap the right box for each one. Keep to one rule: what kind of thing it is.
2Record the groups in a picture tableAfter sorting, count each group and record it — one row per group, a mark for each thing. A picture table like this lets anyone see 'how many of each' at a glance, with no re-sorting.
3How to keep a recordMake a table one thing at a time: one row per thing, a tick in the right column, then count the ticks. Later you can look the answer up without counting again.
4Finding out more — with a grown-upWhen you want to look something up on a screen, do it the safe way. Tap Yes or Not yet for each.

Kavi has these cards: 🐶 dog, 🍎 apple, 🐱 cat. Sorting by what-kind-of-thing, how many go in the pets group?
dog → pet, cat → pet, apple → food
Try this at home: You sort cards by kind: 3 pets and 2 toys. Write the table: Pets — ?, Toys — ?
