What an AI Agent Is
A plain AI tool answers once and waits. An AI agent is different — it is given a goal and then acts in steps: it plans, uses tools, takes actions, checks the result, and loops until the goal is reached. Powerful, but far from perfect — and a person stays in charge.

Kavi and the Busy Little Helper
Kavi the owl meets two machines. The first just answers: ask it a question, it hoots back once, then waits. The second is busy — Kavi gives it a goal ("tidy the nest!") and off it goes: it makes a plan, picks up a tool, puts a twig away, checks the nest, and loops back for more. "You keep going all by yourself," says Kavi. "You're an AI agent — you act in steps to reach a goal!" But when the little helper starts tossing out Kavi's favourite acorn, Kavi gasps: "Stop! You chase the goal, but you don't know what matters to me." Kavi smiles. "An agent is clever — but it still needs me to set the goal, check its work, and say when to stop."

Questions parents ask
+What is an AI agent?
An AI agent is an AI that does not just answer once — it is given a goal and then acts in steps to reach it. It plans, uses tools (like search, email, or a robot body), takes actions, checks the result, and loops back to try again until the goal is reached.
+How is an AI agent different from a chatbot?
A plain chatbot or tool gives one answer when you ask, then waits. An agent keeps going on its own across many steps, taking real actions toward a goal — booking a trip, tidying a room, writing a whole report.
+What are the limits of an AI agent?
It only chases the goal and rules it was given, with no real common sense, understanding, or feelings. It can be wrong while sounding sure, repeat a mistake in a loop, be fooled by bad instructions, and only use the tools it was given. It cannot tell right from wrong by itself — a person is responsible.
+Why does an AI agent still need a person?
A person sets the goal and the rules, approves risky actions, checks the agent's work, can stop it, and is responsible for what it does. The agent acts, but a human stays in charge.
+What age is this 'AI Agent' lesson for?
It is a Stage 6 lesson for roughly ages 11–12 in KAVI Academy's AI-literacy track — top-of-primary, secondary-ready. It uses a story, compare / sort / predict games, and a short cycle of the agent loop.
+Is the lesson free?
Yes — this overview and the printable PDF handout are free. The full interactive lesson and the endless practice are part of KAVI Academy.
